Chennai city witnessed a gargantuan catastrophe with the unprecedented rainfall leaving it in shambles. The unpredictably incessant downpour went on until most parts of the city submerged under water and homes of many were severely ruined. The roads caved in and the scary vortexes erupted the sewer holes obscured by stagnant water. The swift increase in the intensity of rainfall led to reservoir releases further worsening the situation. There was no effective way to direct the excessive flood water because sheltered waterways and conduits were clogged by garbage. There are a swarm of reasons behind Chennai witnessing the floods, the sewage system, poor infrastructure planning, and the glaringly obvious monsoon rainfall pounding the city. Before we begin to decipher the actual cause of the flood, there is a pressing issue at hand that must be understood and dealt with – ‘Climate Change’.
